How Podium Moments At Events Can Turn Into Videos That Amplify Your Nonprofit's Message

Left: MIFA's 'Our City, Our Story' 2022 event. Right: shot from the video edited using the podium moment.

When was your last event?
Did you have an in-person moment of impact that you wish everyone could have experienced?
Was the event recorded by the event company?
Do you have a video file of the moments from the podium?

Here's a question for you: how might you use that recording for something new (beyond keeping it in your archives for that anniversary video you'll make someday)? How could you tell a story about your work by repurposing it?

Take an Emmy nominated project we produced for MIFA last year called "Now Is Your Moment." While attending the event, a staff member took to the podium to call for donations. The piece cut through the noise of yearend giving and got to heart of what people all around us (in our community) are facing everyday; hardship.

The video takes you places you can't go, gives you a perspective you might not consider and calls you to be a part of the change through making a donation to their work.

A simple, yet compelling message, coupled with visuals that showcase the daily impact of MIFA's work in the community.

And here's the cool part, that video wasn't scripted specifically for this project. It was podium sound, from an event they hosted in the fall. The speaker was at the portion of the program where they ask for donations to support their efforts. Her words were powerful on stage and that moment on stage was recorded. Her remarks were moving and had a tone and cadence that felt different than an interview style video story.

All we did was repurpose them, edit it a bit and add b-roll we'd shot from over the years, and music. What resulted was a deeply impactful piece that is still relevant today.

Does your organization have some old content that could be repurposed? Do you have podium sound from an event that could turn into inspiration for your next project?

If you're reading this article, you're a nonprofit leader that probably already knows this...but let me reiterate it: Video has the capacity to ignite passion and drive, empowering people to become agents of positive change in their communities and most importantly inspire them to act! And it's doesn't have to be complicated.

So let's harness the power of video storytelling to elevate your nonprofit's message, engage our audience, and create content that helps you meet your goals! Find the recording for last event and let's make a movie from a moment!
